Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai seeks report on unused leased industrial land

BENGALURU: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has asked officials to submit a report on land leased to companies but was never used for its intended purpose.

During a combined meeting of the state highlevel clearance committee (SHLCC) and cabinet subcommittee on Monday, Bommai said parcels of industrial land that were leased out 10 or 20 years ago have not been used and are now not fit to be leased out to anyone else.

Bommai asked officials of the commerce and industry department to conduct a survey and list ways on how these parcels of land can be salvaged. He asked the department to stipulate a timeframe for lease and sub-lease of industrial land to prevent government property from being misused.

Ahead of the November 2-4 Global Investors’ Meet, Bommai also asked the industries department to prepare a report on providing sops to industries that intend to set up shop in Karnataka.

He asked officials to prepare a land bank, provisions for water, power, and financial sops that can be offered as per the Industrial Policy 2025 to every sector and company that participates and expresses intent to invest in Karnataka.

₹11k cr investments cleared

Earlier on Monday, the CM, who heads the SHLCC, cleared projects worth Rs 11,495 crore, Rs 10,492 crore of which were new investments. “I am very happy to announce that in today’s 58th meeting of the State Highlevel Clearance Committee, we have approved five new projects and four additional investment projects with a total investment of Rs 11,495 crore which creates employment for about 46,984 people,” Bommai said in a statement.

The major investment is from Exide Energy Solutions Ltd, which plans to invest Rs 6,002 crore at the Devanahalli Aerospace and Defence Park. The project proposes to manufacture liion batteries.

Tetrarch Developers, another company, will construct a mixture of commercial and residential projects at the Devanahalli Aerospace Park at a cost of Rs 2,231 crore. Tetarch developers are a wholly owned subsidiary of real estate giants, Brigade Group.

The project intends to set up a multi-sector industrial park, including aerospace, defence, data centres, electronics, logistics, housing, and other social infrastructure. The company is believed to have claimed that this project alone will generate employment for 45,000 people.

Nsure Reliable Power Solutions Pvt Ltd will set up the lithium-ion cell at Malur in Kolar district, JSW Renewable Energy (Vijayanagar) Ltd’s closed loop pumped storage project will generate 130MW hydro power in Vidyanagara in Ballari district and Web Werks India Pvt Ltd will set up a data centre service.
