KALABURAGI: Five persons, including four women, were killed in a road accident on Afzalpur-Dudhani Road near Balurgi in Afzalpur taluk early on Friday morning.
Their speeding car rammed into a tree to avoid head-on collision with an oncoming car. The identities of the deceased are not yet known, said Afzalpur police. It is said that they were the residents of Ahmadnagar district in Maharashtra.
They were returning to their home after visiting the temple of Dattatreya in Ganagapur. The bodies, which were stuck in the mangled car, have been removed. The crowding of the accident spot by passersby created a traffic jam for some of hours.
Four die in road crash
Four people were killed in a road crash at Navali Rice Technology Park, Kanakagiri taluk here on Friday. The mishap occurred when a tractor with 25 people heading for a wedding engagement overturned after the driver allegedly lost control over it. The deceased were identified as Yamanurappa Sindhanur, 55, Ambamma, 45, Dyavamma, 60 and Sheshappa Bandi, 40 — all residents of Indira Nagar in Karatagi.
As many as 20 people were hospitalised in Karatagi. Sources in the hospital said that the condition of two of hospitalised persons is critical. It is believed that the tractor was headed to Gangavati, and Kanakagiri police rushed to the spot and sent injured to the hospital.
