Karl Darlow leaves Newcastle United after being made to wait for Hull City transfer

Karl Darlow has completed his move to Hull City in the closing stage of the January transfer window. The Newcastle United stopper has joined the Championship outfit on loan until the end of the season.

Chronicle Live understands Hull will attempt to make the deal permanent in the summer. Darlow has fallen down the pecking order at St James' Park recently but will be drafted straight into the first-team at MKM Stadium due to a shortage of goalkeepers at the club.

Darlow's future at the club came into question in recent weeks after Martin Dubravka's impromptu return from his Manchester United at the start of January. With Nick Pope unbeatable in between the sticks at present and Loris Karius signing a new deal, Darlow is the keeper forced to leave St James' Park.

Due to Dubravka being cup-tied, Darlow needed to be on the bench on Tuesday night as Newcastle faced Southampton for a spot in the Carabao Cup final. His exit has now been rubber stamped and he will join his new team-mates on Wednesday.

Speaking earlier this week, Hull boss Liam Rosenior admitted it had been a strange transfer to oversee given Darlow needing to stay on Tyneside in the short-term. "Obviously, it's a really unique situation. He's itching to come and we're really looking forward to having him here," Rosenior said.

Announcing the deal moments after the transfer window had closed, Hull City released a statement saying: "Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow on loan from Premier League outfit Newcastle United until the end of the season."
