Karim Adeyemi's agent claims he rejected Man Utd transfer after Ralf Rangnick approach

Karim Adeyemi's agent, Thomas Solomon, has revealed Manchester United were interested in signing him before he chose Borussia Dortmund as his preferred destination.

The Red Devils had been heavily linked with a move for exciting prospect Adeyemi, who has been the latest striker to receive rave reviews at Red Bull Salzburg following the sensational rise of Erling Haaland. The 20-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season with 23 goals and eight assists in 42 appearances, which has inevitably led to him earning a big-money move this summer.

He is now edging closer to a move to Dortmund as the German club prepares for life without Haaland, who is set to sign for Manchester City. United were also reportedly interested in the Norway international but could now miss out on both forward targets.

The German's agent, Solomon, has confirmed that United showed interest in the striker but he has instead chosen a move to Signal Iduna Park. "We’re now close to completing the deal with Borussia Dortmund," he said, via Fabrizio Romano. "There will be no release clause included into his five-year deal. Rangnick? Yes, Manchester United wanted to enter the race - but we want BVB."

The Red Devils will be looking to improve their squad for incoming manager Erik ten Hag this summer and a striker will be one of the top priorities. Edinson Cavani is set to leave the club upon the end of his contract while Cristiano Ronaldo 's future is in doubt despite netting 24 times in 38 games this term. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial could also still leave United.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez are amongst the players linked with a move to Old Trafford. The pair have shone in Serie A this term, scoring 32 goals between them in the league.

Meanwhile, a new defensive-midfielder - with a deal being worked on for Leeds' Kalvin Philipps - and centre-back are also on the summer shortlist. Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are out of contract this summer, leaving room for reinforcements.

Declan Rice, Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves have been listed as possible targets with the trio all tipped to leave West Ham, Leicester and Wolves respectively. Scott McTominay and Fred are likely to remain at the Red Devils next season.
