Karen Pittman And Wood Harris Join Mara Brock Akil's 'Forever'

Karen Pittman and Wood Harris to star in 'Forever' series by Mara Brock Akil.

Karen Pittman, known for her roles in 'And Just Like That' and 'The Morning Show,' is set to join the cast of Mara Brock Akil's upcoming series 'Forever.' The show, based on Judy Blume's 1975 novel, will also feature Wood Harris, known for his work in 'The Wire' and the 'Creed' franchise.

'Forever' was initially ordered by Netflix in 2022 as part of Brock Akil's overall deal with the streaming platform. The series is expected to be a compelling adaptation of Blume's novel, focusing on the love story of two Black teens, Keisha and Justin, set in Los Angeles in 2018.

In the series, Karen Pittman will portray Dawn, a college-educated executive in corporate finance and a devoted mother to Justin. Dawn's character is described as having an elegant yet protective parenting style, driven by her desire to see her son succeed in life.

Wood Harris will play Eric, Justin's father, who is depicted as a restauranteur with a more laid-back approach to parenting. Eric is supportive of his son's ambitions but also aware of the challenges Black boys face in society, particularly in terms of safety and opportunities.

Mara Brock Akil is not only adapting the novel for the screen but will also serve as the showrunner and executive producer of 'Forever.' The series boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Regina King, who will also direct the first episode. Other executive producers attached to the project include Judy Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Erika Harrison, Sara White, Reina King, and Shana C. Waterman.
