Karamoko Dembele in post Celtic Golden Boy nomination as he makes final shortlist with 20 MINUTES of football

Celtic misfit Karamoko Dembele has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award despite failing to make his Parkhead breakthrough during his final season at the club.

Dembele struggled to make any impact on the first-team in Glasgow's east end despite being one of the most highly-touted players to emerge from Scotland in years, making just two appearances last season under Ange Postecoglou totalling at just 20 minutes of game time. That saw the 19-year-old make the move to French football with Stade Brest as he looks to kickstart his career.

Having made a scoring start at his new club, things appear to be only be getting better for the winger after he made the final cut of nominees after Tuttosport narrowed the list for their Golden Boy award down to 80 players. The honour has been handed out to the player deemed to be the best young talent in Europe for the last 19 years, with many recipients of the award going on to have legendary careers.

Past winners include Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Erling Haaland, with previous nominees from Scotland including Billy Gilmour and Aaron Hickey. Now Dembele has the chance to claim the award despite mainly featuring for the Celtic B team last term.

Following his departure from Celtic, Dembele promised big things in France. He said: “I came to Brest because I saw that the project presented by Greg Lorenzi was good.

"It's something that suits me and I think I can have some playing time here. It was a great opportunity that presented itself to me and it interested me. I'm very explosive, I like to have fun and give it to the fans and. I like to score and win."
