'Kalki 2898 AD' poster: Confused fans ask 'Why does Deepika Padukone look like Zendaya from Dune?'

The unveiling of the latest poster for the highly anticipated sci-fi epic 'Kalki 2898 AD' starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan was shared online on Saturday, along with the film's new June 26 release date.

The new poster sent ripples of excitement throughout the fanbase, waiting eagerly for an update on the film. The tagline on the poster that read, "All the forces come together for a better tomorrow," only seemed to amp up the excitement around the film.

However, amidst the anticipation, a curious observation has emerged, has left fans in disbelief. The poster features Prabhas front and centre in his combat gear with Amitabh to his left in his all-white Ashwatthama avatar. It was, however, Deepika's futuristic avatar that stirred confusion owing to her striking resemblance to Zendaya's character Chani, in the recent sci-fi blockbuster 'Dune'.

Taking to the comments section, fans expressed their bewilderment at the uncanny similarity between Padukone's appearance in 'Kalki 2898 AD' and Zendaya's portrayal in 'Dune'. Many have pointed out the resemblance in their facial features, hairstyle, and overall aesthetic, leading to speculations and some asking the makers, "Why Deepika's character more look like Zendaya's character from dune?"

Another confused fan said, "Not trying to join the 'sasti dune' bandwagon, but kasam se bina chashmon ke dekha to Deepika literally Zendaya."

Another fan quipped, "1st one is Zendaya not Deepika please!"

Still another said in agreement, "Too much Dune influences and even Deepika looks like Zendaya in the first glance."

One fan lauded the poster, but said, "It's good but why deepika trying to be zendaya."

The unexpected comparison has led fans to dissect the similarities between the two characters, especially since the movie has been compared to the Oscar-winning sci-fi film Dune, since its announcement last year.

Just last week, the makers gave a glimpse to Big B's character of Ashwatthama. The character reveal video, a true pan-India teaser, also showcased a blend of languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and English.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, 'Kalki 2898 AD', which was originally titled 'Project K' promises to be a visual spectacle, pushing the boundaries of Indian cinema and immersing audiences in a captivating sci-fi adventure

Also starring Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani, the movie hits theatres on June 26 after multiple delays. It was earlier scheduled for release on May 9 after being moved from January 12.

Meanwhile, 'Dune: Part 2' that is still running in theatres, hit the $700 million mark this weekend, helping the franchise officially hit the Billion dollar mark. Currently, the makers have begun work on the third instalment.
