Kalidou Koulibaly would be the perfect partner for Virgil van Dijk were he to sign for Liverpool, says former Reds goalkeeper Alex Manninger.
The giant Napoli centre half has been repeatedly linked with a move to Anfield all summer having established a reputation for himself in Italy as one of the most commanding centre halves in Europe.
Liverpool of course boast one of the most admired defenders in the world themselves in the imperious Dutchman, who has made a huge impression since arriving from Southampton in January 2018 and has now added the Premier League title to the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and World Club Cup medals he won last year.
Former Arsenal keeper Manninger, who spent a season at Anfield as cover for Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius in 2016/17 without ever actually playing a first-team game, believes Koulibaly alongside Van Dijk would be best defensive partnership.
Speaking to "Taca La Marca” program on Radio Musica Television in Italy about the prospect of Liverpool signing Koulibaly, Manninger said: "It could be the strongest couple in Europe.
"It was an honour for me to be able to end my career at Liverpool.
"Whoever arrives at Liverpool improves exponentially.
"Koulibaly could be one more weapon and with Klopp he could improve further. "
