Kacey Musgraves has hilariously recalled accidentally visiting a gay cruising spa in Sydney after mistaking it for a regular sauna during her ongoing Australian tour.
The US singer-songwriter is in the midst of her Aussie jaunt, having appeared at the ARIAs this week during the Sydney leg of her tour with two shows at the Opera House.
Naturally, the bustling schedule left Musgraves in need of some well-earned R&R, but she got more than she bargained for when she rocked up Sydney Sauna — a known spot for, shall we say, tomfoolery — thinking it was just a run-of-the-mill spa.
“It’s apparently the gay sauna destination of this country,” Musgraves said when recounting the story to her Sydney audience. “They used the word ‘cruise’. They said wet rooms … They said 23 serviceable wet rooms. Plenty of cruising areas,” she added.
While Musgraves’ realisation that “this is very gay” made her think the sauna was “not meant for me”, she was ultimately undeterred. Like many a horny sauna-goer before her, Musgraves “stayed” because “I wanted to make some friends”.
“I was nosey. What if I could learn a thing or two in there? They said it’s 24 hours so we’re going back after the show,” Musgraves joked.
For those unfamiliar (whip your notebooks out), Sydney Sauna is located in Darlinghurst and is devoted specifically to gay and bisexual men as a spot for a li’l hanky panky. How do I know this, you ask? Purely from online research, I swear!
While she mightn’t be the venue’s preferred clientele, Musgraves is a longtime ally of the queer community, so of course she’d be welcome with open arms (and towels). Heck, she may as well perform a quick rendition of “I Remember Everything” while she’s there!
Musgraves has two remaining dates at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre next week before she wraps up her Aussie tour, perhaps leaving with the one or two tricks she learned along Oxford Street.
