NEW DELHI: A state-level kabaddi player, an ex-sailor of merchant navy and a disc jockey have been arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of sending them to foreign countries like the USA and Canada.
DCP (IGI Airport) Tanu Sharma said: "The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar alias Mita (28), a kabaddi player; Yogesh Kumar alias Yogi (27), a singer and disc jockey; Varun Chauhan (27), an ex-sailor and Aman Kumar. Amit, Yogesh and Varun work as agents and provide fraudulently obtained Canadian visas. They are operating in rural areas of Punjab and Haryana and facilitate people in settling down in foreign countries by unfair means."
According to the police, information was received on July 5 from an immigration officer that the previous day, passenger Aman Kumar, a resident of Jind, Haryana approached to board a flight for Canada via Dubai-Mexico. During immigration clearance and scrutiny of his travel documents, his Canadian visa was found counterfeit. A case was registered.
The said passenger was then interrogated and subsequently arrested. He disclosed that he got the forged visa on the passport from Amit and Yogesh. The alleged duo had arranged for the forged visa from their agents in Punjab and Haryana for Rs 20 lakh. A team was formed to unearth the chain and Amit and Yogesh were nabbed. They disclosed that they were working in connivance with another agent identified as Chauhan.
A lookout circular to nab Chauhan was issued and on August 18, he was intercepted at Kolkata Airport while he was trying to escape to Thailand. He was then brought to Delhi.
