Not even an army of Beliebers could protect Justin Bieber from being put in a chokehold and getting kicked out of the Coachella music festival on Sunday night.

The 21-year-old pop star and his entourage were trying to attend Drake’s headline show, but were stopped by security before they could get in, according to TMZ.

A blurry video shows the ensuing melee as Bieber and his entourage were escorted from the performance. Bieber told the guards that he had been personally invited to the show by Drake, a fellow Canadian, and got into an argument with Coachella staff. Sources told the gossip site that Coachella security put Bieber in a chokehold during the argument.

Last week, Bieber courted controversy after grabbing Ariana Grande on stage while making a cameo at her concert in Inglewood, California. Grande’s boyfriend, rapper Big Sean, said in a since-deleted tweet: “This kid is about to learn not to touch my girl like that. Beliebe that.”

Bieber had been spotted around the California music festival with model and Kardashian clan member Kendall Jenner. He is now in Europe.

The unceremonious end to Bieber’s Coachella weekend caused him to miss Drake’s headline-making set. A guest appearance by Madonna, who kissed the Canadian rapper, ended with: “Bitch, I’m Madonna,” before she walked off stage.

Drake’s less-than-enthusiastic response to the kiss has forced the rapper to insist that his reaction was not an accurate portrayal of how he felt.
