Justice League director Zack Snyder has teased the plot of a prospective sequel to his 2017 superhero thriller Justice League.
The director is currently undertaking a comprehensive re-edit of the movie into a four-hour miniseries that aligns more closely with his original vision (known as the “Snyder Cut”).
Snyder originally left the production of Justice League part-way through, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon stepping in to finish the project.
However, following a vehement online fan campaign, US streaming service HBO Max commissioned Snyder to re-edit Justice League at considerable expense.
According to Snyder, a hypothetical Justice League sequel could give a more substantial role to Darkseid, the villain voiced by Ray Porter in the “Snyder Cut”.
During a League of Mayhem livestream from The Nerd Queens, Snyder said: “It's a fair question to ask me, you know. What do I say to the world about what happens when Darkseid comes to Earth? Then what? Is that a thing?
“The truth is that, did I write and did I conceive a complete [story]? Do I know what happens with Darkseid? Yes. I do know what happens. To speculate about what that is, that would be exciting. I think that's a fine thing.”
The original Justice League saw Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) team up to defeat the deific supervillain Steppenwolf.
