Jurgen Klopp says Alisson 'saved Liverpool's life' against Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp saluted Alisson Becker for “saving Liverpool's life” in their Liverpool verdict - Why win against Chelsea stands in class of its own and sends message to Manchester City

The Reds regained top spot in the Premier League table as they beat the Londoners on home turf for the first time since 2012.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah got the goals but Klopp was quick to pay tribute to Alisson, who pulled off a fine save to deny Eden Hazard midway through the second half.

That would have set up a nervy finale but the Brazil No 1 delivered when Liverpool needed him.

Liverpool verdict - Why win against Chelsea stands in class of its own and sends message to Manchester City

“There were 10 minutes when Chelsea changed their system and had their chances and Ali saved our life,” Klopp said.

“Apart from that we controlled and dominated the game for 80 minutes which is the best you can say about a game against Chelsea.

“But in these 10 minutes they could have changed the game completely, a post and two saves from Ali, right? But then we controlled the game again. It was a fantastic performance and an even better atmosphere and a very important result.

“We showed a lot of really good things in the first half. But a little problem for us was the wind. In the second half it was a big plus. Chelsea struggled with the build up.

“It was in our favour second half and we used it, and we needed to be a bit more flexible on the right flank.

Jurgen Klopp hits out at 'bulls**t' comments on Liverpool and Manchester City title race

“First half we were left side dominated. That was one of the things we spoke about at half-time.

“It was wonderful that we got a goal from there, with Hendo (Jordan Henderson) chipping the ball in.”

Klopp was delighted with how Liverpool nullified Chelsea's attacking threat for long periods of the contest

“What Bobby (Firmino), Fabinho and the two centre-halves did against their two centre-halves, Jorginho and Hazard was some of the best I saw in my life,” he added.

“We expected a bit they would bring Hazard in the nine position. But still it is difficult to work on that in training. There are not a lot of players like Eden Hazard!

Mohamed Salah explains his goal celebration after stunning strike for Liverpool in Chelsea win

“We denied them a lot of situations. If Eden can control the ball in the centre and on the right and left wing you have Willian and Hudson-Odoi on their bikes, that would have been really dangerous.

“Football wise, we dominated the game for long parts, passing was really good. You need to be patient but direct, and so I liked the game a lot.”
