Jurgen Klopp's pointed response to suggestion he should sign David Luiz for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp was quick to respond to suggestions that David Luiz is the man to fix his Liverpool side's unusually shaky defence at Arsenal.

The Premier League champions lost their second game since clinching the title when they surrendered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

Sadio Mane had finished off a slick move to open the scoring after 20 minutes, but the Reds went in trailing at half-time after errors from their two most trusted performers at the back.

First Virgil van Dijk carelessly lost possession to Reiss Nelson on the edge of the box, with the youngster finding Alexandre Lacazette for the equaliser.

Then Nelson put the Gunners ahead on the stroke of half-time with his first Premier League goal after a mistake from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Despite dominating possession, the Reds were unable to come back into the match in the second half, with defeat ensuring that they will be unable to breach the 100-point mark this season.

It was put to Klopp after the game that Luiz, a defender known for his frequent errors, would be able to solve his side's issues to at the back. A journalist told Klopp that he "needs to get David Luiz in this summer" to "shore up that defence".

However the German simply replied: "He's signed a new contract, right?" as he referenced the new deal the Brazilian penned with the Gunners at the end of last month.

On Van Dijk and Alisson's errors, he added: "Today we made some human errors, which is not so nice but not completely surprising that it can happen whenever. Tonight it happened.

Usually we learn from situations like this, we will do that now again. The boys don’t want to hide or say, ‘It’s not my fault’ or whatever, that’s all clear on the table."
