Jurgen Klopp explains the key decision that has made Liverpool twice as dangerous

Jurgen Klopp has explained how Liverpool's fresh approach to set-pieces has paid off handsomely this season.

The Reds notched 20 goals from dead-ball situations in the Premier League, more than any other club, and have scored a further three in the Champions League.

It is almost double the amount they managed in the top-flight last term, and contributed to Liverpool losing only one league game to finish with a club record 97 points behind champions Manchester City.

And Klopp revealed his players have fully embraced the change in emphasis provided by the club's pool of analysts – after some initial reluctance.

“We decided at the start of the season we needed more consistency and we needed to focus on this and that,” said the Reds boss.

“And it was clear that the players we have and the talent of the boys who take set-pieces and crosses, that we just didn’t score enough from these situations.

“So we focused on that a lot more – not more (in terms of) time but in a different way.

“The analysis department came up with proposals for what we could do and we work on them. We are much more focused on these things and it is just brilliant what the outcome is.

“The boys enjoy it, meanwhile. At the beginning it wasn’t quite like that but now they enjoy (the practice) because when it works out it’s brilliant.”
