Jurgen Klopp offers injury update on two Liverpool players as midfielders return

James Milner will miss Liverpool's blockbusting clash against Chelsea this weekend - but Andy Robertson is in contention for a first start of the campaign.

Milner was in midfield for the Premier League opener at Norwich City but hasn't recovered from the knock that forced him out of last Saturday's triumph over Burnley,

Robertson, meanwhile, was an unused substitute last weekend having been absent at Carrow Road after twisting his ankle in the friendly against Athletic Bilbao earlier in the month.

And Klopp revealed the Scotland international will now challenge Kostas Tsimikas for the left-back role when Chelsea visit on Saturday evening.

"Robbo trained the whole week, of course he (is) in contention, no doubt about that," said the Reds boss

"Millie will not be ready – I think that's it pretty much.

"All the rest trained and looked good and sharp – we should better be because obviously Chelsea is a tough one as well. That's already kind of like the Champions League, just in the Premier League!"

Liverpool will have Fabinho available after the midfielder was given compassionate leave last weekend following the death of his father, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returns after missing out against Burnley to attend the birth of his first child.

Klopp, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, added: "Chelsea is obviously in a really good shape, they are full of confidence, won a Champions League last year and won the majority of the games they played since Tuchel is there.

"So, a really good manager having a top squad is always a good mix, a good recipe for a successful season – that's Chelsea.

"But we play at home, we are in a good moment as well and we want to use that."
