Jurgen Klopp apologises to Jordan Henderson over Liverpool role

Jordan Henderson has flourished in a more advanced role in Liverpool's last two games.

The introduction of Fabinho to the starting line-up saw the Reds skipper come of the bench and score against Southampton last Friday.

He again impressed in Tuesday's Champions League success over Porto after being reintroduced to the starting line-up.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed the "brilliant" England international after his recent performances.

He's also offered an apology for not using Henderson in the right position for the last season and a half after seeing his worth in a more attacking spot.

"Hendo is a brilliant player," Klopp said.

"I’m really happy that he can show that again.

"He obviously likes the position. We've not used him there for one and a half years.

"Sorry about that!

"But we needed him there. A really good performance with brilliant passes."

Henderson's strike against Southampton was his first of the season and he's also registered just one assist having played in a deep-lying role.

The 28-year-old had the same stats at the end of last year, one goal and one assist, having been a crucial part of Klopp's side.

But he has played a more attacking role in the past at Anfield, bagging six goals and 10 assists during the 2014/15 campaign.
