Jurgen Klopp admits he is ‘really happy’ for Marcus Rashford ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp has admitted his is “really happy” to see Marcus Rashford in such impressive form, even if that is a strange opinion for a Liverpool manager to hold.

Since returning from the World Cup, Rashford has scored 17 goals in 20 matches across all competitions, a run of form that has helped Manchester United lift the Carabao Cup and knock Barcelona out of the Europa League.

He now turns his attention to Liverpool, with United travelling to Anfield this weekend and looking to extend their 11-match unbeaten run.

It is a huge match between the two rivals, with United knowing they cannot afford to drop any ground if they are to keep their slim Premier League title hopes alive, while Liverpool are still in the hunt for a top-four finish despite their poor season to date.

Klopp knows his side will have to find a way to keep Rashford quiet if they are to secure a positive result, with the Liverpool boss full of praise for the “incredible” forward in his pre-match press conference.

“It’s pretty much impossible to be happy about something positive at Manchester United when you are the Liverpool manager,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.

“But I am really happy for Rashford because he had a very difficult last year where he was not performing on the level that he is able to perform.

“I knew this would change again but sometimes in life we don’t have enough time to change it.

“Now he is playing incredible. His speed, his technique - it is a mix of everything. How calm he is in front of goal. He scores worldies, he scores the simple ones, he can put his head in. All these kinds of things.

“We have to defend against that collectively. He is not their only world-class player.”
