Jurgen Klopp accuses Liverpool of "taking a break" during Arsenal defeat

Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side may not have been fully focused after two big errors cost them in their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The Reds took the lead after 20 minutes when Sadio Mane slotted home from Andy Robertson's cross.

But an uncharacteristic error from Virgil van Dijk allowed the Gunners back into the game as his short pass found Alexandre Lacazette, who rounded the goalkeeper and scored.

And Alisson was at fault for the second after his slack pass was picked up by Lacazette, who crossed for Reiss Nelson to slot home.

The result means Liverpool now cannot beat the Premier League record points total of 100 set by Manchester City in the 2017-18 campaign, and speaking following the game Klopp admitted his frustration with his side's attitude in the encounter.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Twice, a massive lack of concentration, we took a break after 1-0, especially in the first half before the goal, we were just brilliant, we had 24-3 shots, that's incredible but these two moments killed the game for us.

"Arsenal had no real chances, another shot in the last second, you cannot win football games when you concede goals like this.

"We took a break, that's clear, lost concentration, it's the Premier League and you cannot do that. Virgil van Dijk lost the ball but I didn't see a lot of offers. Nobody wanted the ball. It makes no sense."

Klopp did take the positives, however, and thinks the experience will prepare his side well for the future.

The German added: "We have to learn from that 100%, and we will. I am not sure we never did it all season, we had sloppy moments, once, twice, maybe three times but tonight we got punished from it. It's good on one side because we have to learn from it.

"We were constantly dominant. It was a good game. Arsenal, they were there in two situations, I am not sure they forced them but they were there and they used them."

The Reds face Chelsea at home next Wednesday, where they will lift the Premier League trophy, before concluding their season with a trip to Newcastle on July 26.
