Julian Nagelsmann makes Ibrahima Konate admission after Liverpool transfer links

Julian Nagelsmann has issued a blunt response when asked about the rumours linking Ibrahima Konate with a move to Liverpool this summer.

The RB Leipzig defender was first heavily linked to the Reds last month and is on their shortlist of potential centre-back signings for the upcoming transfer window.

The 21-year-old centre-back is close to entering the final year of his contract at the German side, who are likely to be reluctant to lose the Frenchman.

And when asked over the weekend about the speculation, Nagelsmann refused to be drawn on the rumours.

He told Kicker : “(The reports are) perceived like all other rumours. Not that important to me. I haven’t talked to him about it yet.”

While speaking at the start of this month, Konate made it clear he is only focused on his future with Leipzig.

“There are often rumours in football and many believe them immediately,” he told Bild. “I or my agents didn’t get a call from Liverpool.

“I also have big goals with RB Leipzig. These are currently the best possible results in the Bundesliga, reaching the cup final and the U21 European Championship with France.

“I don’t want to be Dayot (Upamecano)’s successor. I’m me. We both came to Leipzig in 2017 and played well together here.

“Unfortunately, our paths are now parting. I’ll give Dayot the new job (at Bayern Munich) and continue doing my thing here. I have a contract until 2023. And contracts are there to fulfil.”
