Julian McMahon's family issue emotional statement following Charmed and Nip/Tuck actor's death aged 56

The family of Julian McMahon have spoken out for the first time following the actor’s death aged 56 earlier this month.

McMahon, who was born in Sydney and found international fame through starring roles in Charmed and Nip/Tuck, passed away on July 2 after a private battle with cancer.

On Tuesday, a post was shared to his official Instagram page thanking fans for the outpouring of love and support that they had shown.

Alongside a black and white image of McMahon smiling, they penned: “Julian loved @vanmorrisonofficial... For all of those who loved Julian, thank you.”

The post also featured Van Morrison’s Sometimes We Cry, believed to be one of the actor’s favourite songs.

His death was initially confirmed by his wife, Kelly Paniagua, who revealed he had died in Clearwater, Florida, along with his health struggles.

In a statement shared with US outlet Deadline, she said: “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”

McMahon made his final public appearance in March of this year at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. He appeared alongside Nicolas Cage as they promoted their new psychological thriller The Surfer, posing together on the red carpet and speaking to press about the project.

Tributes have poured in from former co-stars and colleagues since the news broke.

Alyssa Milano, who worked with McMahon on Charmed, shared a lengthy tribute on Instagram, along with a slew of images of them together over the years.

Describing herself as “heartbroken,” she said: “Julian was magic. That smile. That laugh. He lit up a room with kindness and mischief. He was more than my TV husband — he was a dear friend who adored his family. Losing him feels unreal.”

Dylan Walsh, his Nip/Tuck co-star, said: “Working with Julian was one of the great privileges of my life. He had an energy and presence that made every scene better. I’ll miss him deeply.”

McMahon was married three times. His first marriage was to Australian singer and actress Dannii Minogue, sister of Kylie Minogue.

He is survived by his wife Kelly Paniagua, daughter Madison from his second marriage to Brooke Burns and his sisters Melinda and Debbie.

The son of former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon, he also starred in Home and Away, Fantastic Four, Runaways and FBI Most Wanted.
