Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stephen Colbert recall 'foul' Kane County theater

April 25--The former Chateau Louise resort in Kane County left quite an impression on Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Stephen Colbert.

During Friday's episode of "The Late Show," the two recalled performing at the West Dundee venue as part of their time with the Second City Touring Company. The hotel-restaurant-theater complex closed in 1984, according to a Tribune story at the time.

"People wonder what it's like to be a young comedian. This is mostly where you're playing, is places like Chateau Louise," Colbert said as he showed a photo of the outside of the theater.

"The interior is quite dark and there was a lot of red vinyl," Louis-Dreyfus said.

"And, like, a lot of, like, sausages and cheeses in its theme," Colbert said.

"Sausages and cheeses that were embedded into the carpeting. OK, it was foul (expletive) foul," Louis-Dreyfus said.

"I remember the theme of the resort was 'the aged.' It was just old people," Colbert said.

"An occasional old person in the audience who might be either asleep or pass-out drunk. It was very glamorous," Louis-Dreyfus said.

The fifth season of Louis-Dreyfus' show "Veep" premiered Sunday on HBO. "The Late Show" airs 10:35 p.m. weeknights on CBS.
