JAMMU: Two persons were arrested for stealing seized articles including four kilograms of heroin from a Judicial complex in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday.
The theft inside the "Malkhana" of the court complex had taken place on the intervening night of April 3 and 4, prompting the authorities to suspend five police personnel including an officer.
Addressing media persons in Rajouri, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Amritpal Singh informed about the arrest of the accused and said they have been identified as Mohd Showket son of Mir Mohd of Khadi Khalmara, Poonch and Mohd Taj son Mohd Aslam of Hayyatpur, Manjakote-Poonch.
"During investigation of the above mentioned case, the special teams were constituted who analysed CCTV footage at various locations along with technical evidence, SSP Rajouri said, adding, "building upon this, few suspects were rounded up and the accused identified as Mohd Showket and Mohd Taj were lifted who on sustained questioning confessed their involvement in the case."
"On the disclosure of Mohd Showket, Police team recovered the stolen property, which included 04 packets of heroin like substance weighing approx 04kgs (valued in crores), 01 Lakh cash in Fake India Currency Notes (FICN) and 01 Mobile phone, SSP Rajouri added.
The SSP said the involvement of the duo in other cases of theft is being looked into.
Further investigation in the case is going on to unearth involvement of the accused in other theft cases in the district.
