Judges Torvill and Dean won't be able to skate together for Dancing on Ice 2021

Dancing on Ice judges Torvill and Dean will not be able to showcase their skills for the first time in the show's history.

ITV measures to reduce the risk of Covid infections mean that the skating pair will not perform together when the show returns on January 17.

They will also be separated by a transparent screen when they sit together on the judging panel.

Dancing on Ice professional skater Mark Hanretty told the Daily Record that Nottingham's own Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will have to try hard to stay apart.

He said: "Not being able to go near each other because of Covid will be a real hardship.

"They are best friends and have been skating together for 45 years and now they can’t even touch each other, never mind dance as a pair.

“Show producers have jumped through hoops of fire to make sure everyone and everything is Covid secure so they can’t go anywhere near each other.

"They will even be separated by a Perspex screen when they are sitting on the judging panel with John Barrowman and Ashley Banjo. It’s strange times indeed.”
