Judge warns Bingham man after he described knuckle duster as 'cool'

A man was reprimanded for calling a knuckle duster "cool."

Mitchell Campey, 23, made the comment in reports prepared for an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

District Judge Leo Pyle told him: "I have read the papers and see what you mention about this knuckle duster.

"There is nothing cool about the weapon in question - it is a cowardly weapon which can inflict serious harm."

He ordered the destruction of the knuckle duster and cannabis which were found when Campey was in Bingham Market Place on April 14.

The judge warned Campey the courts have powers to ban people from driving if they are linked to drugs.

"Think about it. If you lost your licence, your ability to perform your duties as a joiner would be considerably impaired. You ought to be considering your lifestyle," the judge added.

Sixty hours of community work must be carried out by Campey, of Calder Gardens, Bingham, who must also pay £170 in costs and government surcharge. He admitted having cannabis and an offensive weapon in public.

Amreek Jandoo, for Campey, said: "He had no intention to threaten anyone."

Emma Wakefield, prosecuting, said Campey was sitting in a parked car which police officers decided to search.

The drug was found in a small bag and the knuckle duster was on the dashboard near the steering wheel.
