Jude Bellingham stars in Champions League after Liverpool transfer rumours surface

While Liverpool supporters were focusing on the fortunes of their own team on Tuesday night, it would be understandable if they were keeping half an eye on the goings on in Dortmund.

Earlier in the day, a report from the Daily Mirror suggested the Reds were leading the way in the race to sign Jude Bellingham, who has been in excellent form for Borussia Dortmund this season.

In the piece, it's claimed the focus the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have on Dortmund striker Erling Haaland may allow the Reds a clear run at the 18-year-old sensation.

On Tuesday, Bellingham showcased why he is so well thought of in the game once again, as he turned in another excellent performance in the Champions League.

The England international set up Dortmund's opener in an emphatic 5-0 win over Besiktas.

Donyell Malan capitalised on Bellingham's brilliant pass, before braces from Marco Reus and Haaland rounded off the rout.

While Bellingham didn't get on the scoresheet himself, he did enough to earn the Player of the Match prize from UEFA.

Throughout the contest the Dortmund tyro showed off his dribbling skill and composure in possession, giving his team a constant outlet and threat from midfield.

The assist for Bellingham also took him to four goal contributions over the course of the group stage, a mark that's not been scaled by an English midfielder of his age for many years.

Indeed, over the course of the campaign the former Birmingham City man is demonstrating increased productivity in the final third.

Despite his performances throughout the group stages, Dortmund were unable to make it into the last-16, with Ajax and Sporting CP finishing ahead of them.

It's testament to Bellingham that he was able to shine so brightly on Tuesday, as it's been an unusually turbulent week for the midfielder.

He was fined £34,000 by the German FA on Tuesday after questioning the appointment and integrity of referee Felix Zwayer in his team's loss to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
