Jubilee Park pool sees cost of heating treble with potential price rise hitting Nottingham visitors

An outdoor swimming pool popular with visitors from Nottingham may charge people more to use its facilities. Jubilee Park swimming pool in Woodhall Spa may be forced to increase its prices with heating costs on the rise. Pressure on finances is said to have increased in recent weeks at the Lincolnshire pool with bosses saying that gas prices have trebled.

The day-to-day operations to keep Jubilee Park open, as well as the general maintenance of the pool, have made things difficult at Lincolnshire's most famous open air swimming baths. Joe Stanhope, operations director, said: "Because it is coming in the middle of the season, we are going to see how things go," LincolnshireLive has reported.

"There are a lot of things increasing, like the price of the chemicals we use in the pool is going up and electricity bills are going up. It's all of that combined."

He said Covid has taught the team they must be able to change operations quickly if something unexpected happens. He added: "What we have learned over the last couple of years with Covid is we will have to adapt."

On whether he will have to start charging more for people who want to swim in the pool, he said: "I think at the moment, let's see where it goes. I'm feeling comfortable we will be okay this season, but for future seasons it is worrying.

He added: "It's always a last resort to increase prices." Despite there being some uncertainty, Joe said he is not feeling despondent about the future.

"We're just about to go into our busiest season and we are really looking forward to having lots of people back," he said. There are lots of events to look forward to, like midnight swims and partnerships with the Kinema in the Woods.

One event includes watching Jaws at the Kinema, followed by a late night swim, where inflatable sharks are thrown into the pool. Mr Stanhope even joked about dyeing the pool red.
