Jrue Holiday said he wanted to retire with Bucks right before getting traded in Damian Lillard deal

Wednesday’s big NBA news of Damian Lillard being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers featured lots of moving parts.

One of the tougher ones came with veteran guard Jrue Holiday being part of the package the Bucks sent to the Portland Trail Blazers to acquire Lillard.

Holiday had been with Milwaukee since 2020 and won a championship with the franchise in 2021. However, he’s now in Portland for the moment before possibly being traded to a title contender.

Literally on Tuesday, Holiday was quoted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel saying that he didn’t wish to retire right now and wanted to spend the rest of his career with the Bucks.

“Would love to,” he said in regard to staying with Milwaukee for his career. “Before I even won here I think I said I’m a Buck for life and I mean that like deep in my heart. I don’t want to play for any other team. I think we have a chance to continue to do great things as the Bucks team and organization so I want to be in Milwaukee.”

A day later, Holiday would find himself on the outs in Milwaukee and headed to Portland to potentially await another new destination. It’s just another reminder of how fast the league moves when you least expect it.

It’s an incredibly tough break for Holiday, but hopefully he’ll land on his feet on a team that he can help contend for a championship.
