Joy for singer Brian Kenndey as he announces he's 'completely' cancer free

Singer Brian Kennedy has announced he is "completely" cancer free after a three year battle.

The 52-year-old is now looking forward to upcoming shows after receiving his most recent scan results.

He said: "I am very proud to officially announce that I had my Scan results yesterday and I completely clear, normal and no cancer present!

"I know it’s the first of many check ups to keep an eye on everything but I’m thrilled to share good news for a change."

The Belfast born singer took to Instagram to reveal the news, while posting a grinning selfie.

The 2006 Irish Eurovision contestant was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2016.

His post added: "It’s almost three years since original diagnosis. What a journey it’s been from St Vincent’s to St James to St Marks and now back home to St James.

"My life will never be the same but I am alive and so grateful for that. Today is the Freshest of starts.

"Thanks everyone who posted support here and came to the shows to tell me your kindness in person.

"You know who you are and who you aren’t. See you at the upcoming shows.

"Onwards and upwards from a very relieved 52 and a half year old. It seems to all have been worth it."

He had his colon and rectum, along with other organs, removed during a gruelling surgery earlier this year.

And after recently finishing a five month long month long chemotherapy treatment, he is now looking forward to getting back on stage.

On June 10, he posted: "Hard to believe that today is my last chemo session after five months.

"Weirdly I started on New Year’s Eve 2018 and here I sit in June 2019 for the final one.

"I wear the little pump until Weds then I’m done done. The team here at St James's are incredible.

"So cheery no matter what. Thanks everybody. I can’t help thinking of the people in my life who didn’t make it over the last three years since my original diagnosis and feel so lucky and grateful that I get to be here.

"Singing and gigging mean more to me than ever. Here’s to the next one! #MusicIsMedicine."
