Josh Kroenke makes surprising claim over Arsenal's transfer business this summer

Arsenal fans have been told to await excitement in the final weeks of the transfer window by Josh Kroenke, son of Stan Kroenke, despite the club's limited budget for signings.

The Gunners only have around £45million to spend while supposedly less competitive teams such as Aston Villa, Leicester City and Southampton spending £83million, £76.5million and £39millon, respectively.

Even Chelsea have spent £40milion despite being under a two window transfer ban, with all but one of Arsenal's other top six rivals having spent more than their reported budget as a whole.

In an interview with football.london in Denver, Colorado, Josh Kroenke confirmed that the club was only limited by the amount of cash it could generate to spend on players.

That would leave hopes over a meeting between Unai Emery and Head Of Football, Raul Sanllehi, with Stan Kroenke over additional funds dashed.

However, in an additional interview published on Arsenal.com, Josh Kroenke called on supporters to expect movement in the window.

"I would say ‘be excited’," he told the club's official website. "There are a few things that I know our group are working on, and a few things we hopefully have on the doorstep.

"Nothing is ever a done deal until it's a done deal, obviously, but we know we have key areas we want to address in our squad, both now and in the future.

"Our entire football operations staff have a great grasp on that and I've encouraged them to be as expressive as possible."

Arsenal have already seen bids rejected for Kieran Tierney and Wilfried Zaha this summer.

The latter will be out of reach unless extra funds are provided with Crystal Palace looking for a deal that could eat up more than double the budget available to the Gunners.

Celtic meanwhile are looking for around £25million for Tierney but are not willing to accept a structured deal that spreads out the transfer fee across multiple payments over a long period of time.
