Josh Ginnelly injury latest as Hearts are forced to pull winger out of training ahead of Alloa encounter

Josh Ginnelly remains a doubt for Hearts’ game against Alloa after he was pulled out of training.

The on-loan Preston North End winger hasn’t featured since injuring his thigh in the 1-0 Championship win away to Arbroath last month.

He’s since missed the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hibs, league victory over Inverness CT at Tynecastle, the Jambos’ Betfred Cup game at East Fife and Friday night’s defeat at Dunfermline.

Boss Robbie Neilson admitted last week that the trip to Fife would come too soon for the wideman, but hoped to have him back for tomorrow night’s clash with the Wasps.

However, Ginnelly trained with the first team last week but didn’t feel comfortable and was withdrawn, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

He’ll now be assessed by the club’s medical staff before a decision is taken on whether he can be involved tomorrow.

If not, then it is hoped he’ll finally be back in contention for this weekend's Betfred Cup last 16 tie, also against Alloa.

Ginnelly netted his first Hearts goal in their opening night 6-2 thrashing of Dundee, but has only appeared once since, lasting just eight minutes in their second league game at Gayfield.

While Neilson has other options that can fill in wide on the right, none have the pace and directness of Ginnelly, which has been sorely lacking.

Craig Wighton has filled in on that side of the pitch, but isn’t a like for like replacement and has looked better through the middle.
