Josh Cullen joins Burnley on three year deal as Nathan Collins leaves the Clarets

The revolving doors at Turf Moor today has seen one Ireland international join Burnley while another one leaves the club.

Confirmation that defender Nathan Collins has left the Clarets to Wolves in a record €24m move for an Ireland player was followed by the announcement that midfielder Josh Cullen has joined the Championship outfit from Anderlecht on a three year deal.

Cullen, 26, has made the switch in a deal believed to be worth less than €4m and it marks a swift reunion with Vincent Kompany, who left Anderlecht for Burnley this summer.

A key figure for Stephen Kenny at international level, Cullen moved to Belgium in October 2020 and was effectively an ever-present for former Manchester City star Kompany.

“We are delighted to welcome Josh to the squad," reacted Kompany.

"He’s a hard-working and brave player, that will give everything for the team and the club.

"Josh is an intelligent midfielder, who is good on the ball and will help improve our side."

Cullen took a chance on moving to the continent from West Ham and, after enhancing his career, is excited to be back in English football.

“I’m really happy," he said.

"It’s been something that’s been going on for a couple of weeks now, so I’m just happy it’s all done and dusted.

"I’m looking forward to the new season now. The season will come around fast now.

"I can’t wait to get the shirt on in some of the friendlies, and then the main event kicks off in a few weeks’ time.”
