Jose Mourinho’s Roma renew Granit Xhaka chase as Edu agrees exit for outcast midfielder

Welcome to our football.london The Arsenal Way daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all.

Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

AC Milan interested in Pepe

It’s been reported that AC Milan are keen on signing Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal. The Ivorian international has failed to be consistent at the Emirates and some fans say he has not lived up to the price tag.

Arsenal brought the winger, for over £70m in 2019 and have failed to reap the rewards of a player who would cost that much. The club’s interest in the likes of Noa Lang and Dusan Kulusevski have prompted rumours too.

The question for Arsenal and Edu is will they get close to what they initially paid for him?

Our take: I think it’s time for both parties to move on and if Arsenal can get a replacement winger, AC Milan are keen on Pepe - what’s the problem?

Roma in for Xhaka… again

Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Witness) have reported that it is not ‘impossible’ that Roma will ‘re-open the channel’ for the club to possibly sign Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal have looked like they missed Granit Xhaka after absences due to COVID and an ankle injury. Instead, they’ve been going on an upwards trajectory.

But, as most fans know he is a favourite of Mikel Arteta’s at the Emirates and his position in the team and at the club will have to be discussed before they even consider the thought of selling him.

Roma were reportedly interested in the Switzerland international in the summer transfer window and Jose Mourinho could now begin chase number two for the midfielder.

Elneny likely to leave on free in January

Turkish outlet FotoMak have reported that Arsenal are ready to let Mohamed Elneny leave the club on a free transfer in the January transfer window.

The report states that Edu has come to an ‘agreement’ with the player's agent to let him leave on a free. Turkish club, Galatasaray are the main club interested in the midfielder, where the former Basel midfielder has been rumoured to move to for some time.

Arsenal brought him for £11m in 2016 and Elneny has failed to make a huge impact in his five years at the club, despite making over 130 appearances.

Our take: While Elneny has been a fine servant and often a useful substitute to bring on in games, Arsenal now need to be looking at a high calibre of player as they try to build a squad which can get them back into top-four contention.
