Jose Mourinho opens up on his conversation with Dele Alli following coronavirus Snapchat video

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he had a chat with Dele Alli over the controversial coronavirus video he posted on Snapchat last weekend.

The 23-year-old found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons as the recording went viral.

Alli posted a video of him wearing a mask over his face with the message 'Corona whattt, please listen with volume' before proceeding to pan the camera to a man of Asian appearance.

The FA has since contacted the Tottenham player to seek his observations and he could potentially face a ban after Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva was hit with one last year as a social media post about teammate Benjamin Mendy was deemed offensive.

Jose Mourinho on Spurs' progress under him

Now back at Hotspur Way as the team prepare for Sunday's game against Aston Villa, the Spurs boss has revealed that he had a talk with the midfielder over the incident.

"I spoke with Dele, but for me it was a quite easy conversation because he was very sorry about the mistake," he said at his pre-match press conference.

"It was never his intention to hurt or offend. He immediately regretted it and realised it was a mistake. A young guy mistake of his generation.

"It was a simple conversation.

"I can say that he regrets and that for me is the best feeling he can show and to apologise is remarkable because sometimes these people don't realise they make mistakes."

Alli did issue an apology following the incident last weekend.

"Hi guys, it's Dele. Just wanted to apologise on my behalf for the video I posted on Snapchat yesterday," he explained in a video on social media.

"It wasn't funny and I realised that immediately and took it down.

"I let myself down and the club. I don't want you guys to have that impression of me because it wasn't funny.

"I realised that straight away and took it down. It isn't something which should be joked about.

"I'm sending all of my love, thoughts and prayers to everyone in China."
