Jose Mourinho hints Tottenham's Harry Kane could be ruled out until next season

Jose Mourinho fears Tottenham striker Harry Kane could be ruled out until next season.

The England captain suffered a hamstring injury during the 1-0 Premier League defeat at Southampton on New Year's Day.

Kane went under the knife at the weekend and was expected to return to training in April following the successful surgery

However, Mourinho has cast out doubt on whether his talisman will play any part of Tottenham's top-four bid - or this summer's Euros.

“We try the best we can. News on Harry we don’t have and if you ask me every time we come here the answer will be the same.

“We expect him to be out until mid-April, end of April, May, even next season I don’t know.”

Following the procedure on Saturday, Kane posted a 'thumbs up' picture on social media, his leg in a brace.

"Surgery went very well. First day of recovery starts now!"

Kane was forced to watch Spurs go down 1-0 to Liverpool due to Roberto Firmino's first-half goal.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are closing in on the loan signing of Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.

Mourinho added: “I am waiting for news but when I say I am waiting for news can come or not. I’m more worried about Middlesbrough than the market.

“With the rules even if we get the player you cannot play him in a reply so in this moment I am not interested in Gedson or any other players who could come.”
