Jorge Masvidal: Conor McGregor fight won’t happen because UFC ‘don’t want a murder charge’

Jorge Masvidal has said before that Conor McGregor would be an “easy fight.” Now he’s worried about … killing the man?

On Thursday, Masvidal – in a move that felt like he was daring McGregor – stressed that the matchup is out of the question because UFC president Dana White won’t allow it.

“That fight, the president deemed it not good, because they don’t want a murder charge on them, so they’re not gonna allow that to happen,” Masvidal said during “Get Up!” on ESPN. “The president himself already said it, so … I mean, I don’t wanna go to jail for killing nobody. That’s not what I wanna do. I’m here to compete and beat people up.”

Prior to being called out by Nate Diaz, it was Masvidal who called out McGregor days after his record-breaking UFC 239 knockout win in July. White’s response was that the size difference between welterweight Masvidal and lightweight McGregor made it a bad matchup for the former two-division champion.

“Masvidal is too big for him,” White said in late July during the UFC 240 post-event news conference. “I think Masvidal is too big. Conor disagrees, so Conor was not happy that I said that Masvidal was too big for him.”

Masvidal’s manager, Abe Kawa, previously told MMA Junkie that White is guilty of trying to protect McGregor by not entertaining the idea of a fight with Masvidal.

Masvidal seemed to be harping on that notion again Thursday.

“The president said we can’t compete, because I’m too much man,” Masvidal said. “So, there’s not … that can’t happen. We’re different spectrums. He’s not gonna allow that to happen.”

In the meantime, Masvidal has a huge fight ahead of him, as he and Diaz will headline UFC 244 on Nov. 2 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
