Jordan Peterson tearfully reacts to Olivia Wilde basing Don't Worry Darling villain on him

Author Jordan Peterson has tearfully reacted to Olivia Wilde basing her Don't Worry Darling villain on him.

The right-wing writer became visibly emotional when he appeared on Talk TV's Piers Morgan Uncensored show this week and addressed comments made by Olivia in her recent Interview magazine chat.

The 38-year-old actress spoke to the publication to promote her movie and, during the conversation, admitted that Chris Pine's villainous character Frank is based on the controversial author.

Hollywood star Olivia labelled him "this insane man" and claimed he is a "pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community".

When grilled about her comments by Piers, 57, Jordan appeared to hit back as he became emotional.

He said: "Sure, why not. People have been after me for a long time because I've been speaking to disaffected young men – what a terrible thing to do, that is.

"I thought the marginalised were supposed to have a voice.

"It's very difficult to understand how demoralised people are, and certainly many young men are in that category."

He continued: "And you get these casual insults: 'These incels.' What does that mean? Well, these men, they don't know how to make themselves attractive to women, who are very picky.

"And good for them – women, be picky. That's your gift, man. Demand high standards from your men. Fair enough. But all these men who are alienated, they're lonesome, and they don't want to do, and everyone piles abuse on them."

During her interview with the magazine described "incels" as "basically disenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from women".

She added: "And they believe that society has now robbed them — that the idea of feminism is working against nature, and that we must be put back into the correct place."

Discussing her comments further Jordan remarked that "as far as critiques go, that was kind of low-level".

He commented further: "When Olivia made those comments, the first thing I did was go look at the preview for her movie, which I quite liked.

"I thought I would go see that movie, probably, and perhaps I will. It didn't really bother me."

He then admitted that he felt Chris Pine was an excellent choice of actor to play the character he had inspired joking that he is "a very good-looking man, so that seems all right".

The author then explained why he had become tearful when discussing Olivia's remarks.

He said: "It's really something to see – constantly how many people are dying for lack of an encouraging word and how easy it is to provide that if you're careful."

Don't Worry Darling centres on the story of a young couple, Jack and Alice – who are played by former One Direction star Harry Styles and Florence Pugh – and their seemingly perfect lives in a 1950s Californian town as things take a sinister turn.

Don't Worry Darling is in cinemas now.
