Jonas Gutierrez sends message to Lionel Messi as he reveals club he will support alongside Newcastle

Newcastle United cult hero Jonas Gutierrez has revealed he will now also be supporting Paris Saint-Germain following the signing of Lionel Messi.

The six-time Ballon d'Or signed a two-year contract with the French runners-up on Tuesday following his emotional exit from Barcelona.

Messi scored 672 goals in 778 games for the Catalan giants, but his shock exit was confirmed this month with the club's debts leaving them unable to extend the 34-year-old's stay.

The Argentina international said: "I am impatient to start a new chapter of my career in Paris. The club and its vision are in perfect harmony with my ambitions.

"I know how talented the players and staff are here. I am determined to build, alongside them, something great for the club and for the fans. I can't wait to set foot on the Parc des Princes pitch."

Newcastle fans' favourite Gutierrez played alongside Messi at international level, earning 22 caps and representing his country at the World Cup in 2010.

The former Magpies winger, who now represents Argentine second-tier outfit Almagro at the age of 38, regularly shares nostalgia posts about his time on Tyneside.

However, it would now appear that Newcastle have another club competing for Gutierrez's support.

He wrote: "Welcome king and goat @leomessi if you and Your family are happy we are all from now @psg fans."
