Jon Rahm won the U.S. Open on Sunday by doing what you need to do to win a major – hitting clutch putts when the championship is on the line.
But Rahm didn’t just sink one clutch putt – he hit two of them. He nailed a bending putt on the 71st hole and then made another bending putt on the 72nd hole.
It was an absolutely incredible finish by one of the best golfers in the world who now has his first major.
Those back-to-back birdies gave Rahm a one-stroke lead over Louis Oosthuizen, who was playing in the final group. Oosthuizen wasn’t able make up that deficit over the closing holes and just like that Rahm won his first major in a way that will never be forgotten. Rahm ended up winning by two strokes.
Rahm entered this week as the favorite to win. He was coming off that wild moment at the Memorial two weeks ago when he was told after the third round that he had COVID and wouldn’t be able to play on Sunday. Just like, his six-stroke lead after three rounds was erased and he went into quarantine for 10 days.
Well, on Sunday he made up for all of that and did it in stunning fashion.
