Johnny Hekker is pumped about SoFi Stadium bidding to host 2026 World Cup matches

It’s a long way out, but SoFi Stadium could play host to one of the world’s biggest sporting events six years from now. Los Angeles officially made its pitch to host 2026 World Cup matches to FIFA this week, bidding to be one of the host cities.

SoFi Stadium and the Rose Bowl would be potential game sites for the World Cup, which would be a huge move for the city of Los Angeles. It is one of 17 cities vying to host games for the World Cup, so nothing is certain yet.

Johnny Hekker is hoping Los Angeles is granted its bid to host some games, saying SoFi Stadium would be a great venue.

SoFi Stadium isn’t open yet, but it’s about 97% complete and will be finished in time for the 2020 NFL season. It will host everything from the Super Bowl to a college football championship to Summer Olympics events and ceremonies in 2028.

Being in one of the country’s largest cities, SoFi Stadium would make a ton of sense as a site for World Cup games in 2026, too.

The World Cup will also hold games in Canada and Mexico as part of North America hosting the event that year. The majority will be held in the U.S., however, with cities such as Boston, Dallas, New York and Nashville also pushing to play host to some games.
