John Travolta shares touching tribute to Olivia Newton-John on her birthday

John Travolta has shared a special tribute to Olivia Newton-John on what would have been her 74th birthday after she passed away last month following a long battle with breast cancer.

The Grease actor, 68, remembered his co-star by taking to Instagram to share a picture of himself and Olivia in the 1978 hit musical as their iconic characters Danny and Sandy.

Alongside the snap, he wrote: "Happy birthday my Olivia."

The two actors first met on the set of Grease in 1978, and retained a strong friendship for 44 years until her passing on August 8, after her breast cancer returned in 2017 as stage four.

Her death caused a wave of tributes as individuals from around the world mourned her death.

Shortly after Olivia's death, John posted a tribute on social media and wrote: "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much.

"We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever. Your Danny, your John."

Olivia's husband John Easterling has also been looking back at the magical time spent with his late wife, as he celebrated her at a memorial service with family and friends.

The 70-year-old took to Instagram to share a sweet story about a trip they had taken during the early stages of their relationship.

"I remember the first birthday when we were together and I took Olivia on a week-long adventure in the Out Islands of the Bahamas surrounded by a beautiful, peaceful, spectacular turquoise water," he wrote.

John noted they had stayed in a secluded island house with no nearby roads and had to travel everywhere by boat.

He said: "There are so many islands there you almost always have an island in sight when you're out on your boat.

"It was private, it was wonderful, and we would take the boat to uninhabited islands and beach and just explore — just the two of us."

Following a one-day visit to Great Guana Cay, the pair encountered a storm.

But John recalled: "As quickly as the storm started, the winds died down, the rain stopped, the sun poked through and the seas turned back to that beautiful turquoise."

He added: "The rainbow started on the left and crystallized all the way over — horizon to horizon — and that's when the dolphins started jumping at the bow of the boat leading us under the rainbow."

The post concluded: "Every day with Olivia there was a hint of magic and everyday with Olivia was a bit of the supernatural. Happy Birthday Honey — I love you!"
