John Terry sends eight-word message to Chelsea heroes after extraordinary comeback vs Tottenham

Chelsea legend John Terry has sent a message to the club's Under-23 squad after they pulled off a remarkable late comeback to beat Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Anything other than a win would have seen the side relegated from Premier League 2 division one but they will stay in the league for the 2022-23 campaign.

Just before the hour mark, Tottenham took the lead after Harvey Vale had seen a strike of his own ruled out in the first half. Kion Etete was the man to give the north Londoners the lead after Lucas Bergstrom had misjudged a corner.

Andy Myers' men did not give up, however. They struggled to break down a stubborn Spurs side until the 82nd minute when Dion Joseph Rankin converted a cross from Lewis Hall. But one more goal was needed to secure survival and instead send Leeds United down into division two.

In the 87th minute, Joe Haigh provided it. After an excellent run from Hall, his shot was parried back into the penalty area and the ball eventually nestled in the back of the net after a scramble ensued, saving Chelsea from the dreaded drop. While Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah were drafted in from the first-team, the majority of the side were from the current crop of youth graduates.

Terry took a part-time job at the end of 2021 as a 'youth team consultant' at Chelsea after leaving his role as Aston Villa coach. The former captain has been advising the club's decision making and shared his delight at the dramatic comeback with an eight-word message.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a photograph of the team in a huddle, writing alongside it: "So proud of this group of players today." A number of first-team stars were also watching on to show their support, including Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Mason Mount.
