John Ross, Carl Lawson among Bengals confirmed out for preseason Week 1

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor isn’t shy about injury details, which is a change of pace for the team and its fans.

Taylor rattled off a list of names who won’t be taking part in Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, with John Ross chief among them.

Marisa Contipelli of Bengals.com provided some of the names:

Zac Taylor said the following guys won’t play Saturday in KC: Carl Lawson, Geno Atkins, Tyler Eifert, Joe Mixon, Giovani Bernard.

John Ross is still day to day, don’t expect him to play. Taylor said it’s too early to ask Rodney Anderson to play even though he was just activated.

Ross has been “day to day” for a while now, though chatter from around the team has suggested he could go if really need be — Taylor’s staff likes to be cautious though, which makes sense given the injury suffered by A.J. Green already. Carl Lawson has been one of camp’s most dominant players but is among those veterans who won’t be asked to work.

By and large, preseason Week 1 was always going to be about the younger players. Expect to see plenty of Trayveon Williams in the backfield and a rookie like Michael Jordan fighting it out at guard.
