John Lundstram Rangers transfer prospects assessed as Sheffield United man draws Ibrox icon comparison

Rangers-linked John Lundstram has been tipped as a perfect player for Scottish football as he draws comparisons to Lee McCulloch.

The Sheffield United midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been repeatedly touted for a move to Ibrox.

Lundstram will be free to negotiate with Rangers from this month and could sign a pre-contract deal to move in the summer - or arrive immediately for a knockdown fee.

The Everton youth product hasn't played much for the Premier League strugglers this season due to his contract situation but he hit five league goals last season.

On the latest Record Rangers podcast Jonny McFarlane, Scott McDermott and Andy Newport discussed the possibility of the Englishman's arrival.

And they backed Lundstram to succeed if he does make the move with his game ideally suited to Scottish football.

McDermott explained: "Jonny said it, he mentioned the word 'powerful' - that's what Lundstram is.

"Box-to-box, right-sided and could play wide but probably better in one of those number 8 roles.

"From watching him he looks ideally suited to Scottish football. He's physical, he gets up and down the pitch, he's got a goal in him and likes to arrive late in the box."

And McFarlane called on a previous Ibrox icon for a point of comparison.

He said: "Physically he's a wee bit like Lee McCulloch.

"He's a really solid guy."
