John Lithgow makes history at 2026 Tony Awards as Death of a Salesman triumphs

  • The 79th annual Tony Awards ceremony, hosted for the first time by Grammy-winning singer Pink , took place at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, celebrating the best of Broadway plays and musicals from the past year.
  • Schmigadoon ! secured the coveted Best Musical award, also winning Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations, and Best Book of a Musical, while the Pulitzer Prize-winning production Liberation was named Best Play.
  • Ragtime earned the Best Revival of a Musical award, and Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman received the most accolades for an individual production with six Tonys, including Best Revival of a Play.
  • John Lithgow made history as the oldest man to win a competitive acting Tony at 80 for his role in Giant, and Laurie Metcalf won for her supporting performance in Death of a Salesman.
  • Shoshana Bean and Ali Louis Bourzgui both won for their roles in The Lost Boys, and the broadcast also featured tributes to several Broadway shows celebrating milestone anniversaries.
