Interim Celtic boss John Kennedy admits the club have a decision to make over Leigh Griffiths' future.
The striker made his first start in almost three months against Falkirk last weekend but can leave the club for free when his contract expires at the end of the season.
He's managed six goals for Celtic this season but all of those came before Kennedy took the reins from Neil Lennon.
The club can opt to keep him for another year since they hold the option of a year extension, and Kennedy confirmed talks are underway to resolve the situation.
The caretaker boss was speaking to the press ahead of Saturday's clash with Livingston at Parkhead.
And he said a decision will soon have to be made on whether Griffiths stays at the club for 2021/22.
Kennedy said: "The situation, it's like a lot of players' contracts, the last year can sometimes be an optional year.
"Some players might sign a three-year contract with an optional year at the end of it and that's where Leigh's at with his.
"There's an option to end it this year, but that's one of those decisions that will have to be made between Leigh and the club.
"It will remain private until it's decided but that's something we just have to think about moving forward."
