John Kavanagh celebrates career achievement that's second only to 'Conor McGregor winning UFC titles'

John Kavanagh has proudly overseen a career milestone that he says is second 'only to Conor winning UFC titles.'

The Dubliner took to social media to reveal that the ALTA Warriors program, which he is involved with, has partnered up with the UFC.

He wrote: "Impossible for me to explain what this means to me. @trainalta has officially partnered with @ufcgym.

"+25yrs ago my life was knocked onto a new path which would eventually lead to this moment after watching @ufc 1. Besides Conor winning UFC titles this is the biggest moment in my martial arts life."

ALTA was formerly known as Wimp to Warrior. It's an Australian enterprise originally but has been a global MMA training program for many years including bases out of SBG gyms in Dublin, Naas, Drogheda, Cork, Clonmel and Belfast.

As for Kavanagh's star pupil, McGregor has been back on the mat with him in recent weeks as he eases his way back into full MMA training.

However, we could still be a long way off from him returning to the octagon given the severity of his injury and how much rehabilitation has to go in before he is 100% ready to withstand all that comes with a UFC fight.

The likes of Ariel Helwani have said that a comeback fight probably won't happen until 2023.

And reading between the tea leaves, that prolonged timeline seems more and more realistic based off lightweight star Michael Chandler's comments this week.

Just days previously he had again called out McGregor to face him in the 'biggest fight in MMA' only to backtrack on that notion based on not wanting to 'wait' for the former UFC double-champ to complete such an extensive rehabilitation process.

The American most recently said: "I've called him out in a respectful manner. Conor, when you're ready to come back, whenever you are ready, whenever the leg is 100 per cent healed because the UFC as a promotion is better with Conor in it.

"We need to see a healthy Conor inside the octagon so he doesn't need to rush back. We'll see when he comes back, so I'm not waiting."
