John Jerry already getting first-team reps with Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals added veteran guard John Jerry on Tuesday in what seemed like a camp-body move for over the summer.

But injuries have a way of changing outlooks quickly.

Jerry was already taking first-team reps with the offensive line Wednesday, according to Jay Morrison of The Athletic.

Meaning, a guard who hasn’t played since 2017 but has a link to current line coach Jim Turner is now getting pivotal reps in the three-day portion of mandatory minicamp.

The development comes in response to the mystery injury suffered by first-round tackle Jonah Williams. Cordy Glenn was getting some work again at left tackle with Williams out, while Christian Westerman was also getting some looks at guard with Clint Boling down.

The Bengals say the Jerry addition was unrelated to the Williams injury. Either way, Jerry’s arrival ended up coming at a critical stretch of camp before the team starts a six-week break.
