John Delaney the talk of social media again after new TV documentary

Former FAI chief John Delaney was again trending on social media after a new documentary on his career aired tonight.

RTE premiered the hour-long feature titled 'The John Delaney Story', which painted a portrait of the Waterford man who so dramatically fell from grace last year.

Players, football fans, ex-international managers, FAI insiders and journalists all gave their take on the former CEO and executive vice-president of the FAI, whose spell in charge of the organisation ended in huge controversy in September 2019.

The likes of Eamon Dunphy, Brian Kerr and Richie Sadlier were interviewed and offered withering assessments of Delaney's impact on Irish football.

And the new documentary prompted lots of reaction on social media too:

One person said: "John Delaney was some man for one man in fairness...absolute madness. Couldn't make it up if you tried."

Another said: Safe to say Brian Kerr is no great fan of #johndelaney #thejohndelaneystory."

Someone else commented: #JohnDelaney would be the perfect fit to become a Bank CEO."

While another person on social media wrote: "Watching the RTE documentary on #JohnDelaney and I'm neither surprised nor disappointed at this stage."

And another reminisced: "John Delaney told me in 2012 that I looked dodgy because my tie wasn’t straight... how the tables have turned."
