John Bishop has spoken of his “heartbreak” following a tragic incident that left 47 people injured during Liverpool's Premier League trophy parade on Monday.
Thousands of Liverpool supporters had gathered in the city to cheer on Arne Slot's team as they travelled through the streets on an open-top bus.
The parade, which celebrated the team's victory of their second Premier League title, was marred when an unnamed driver ploughed into a crowd of fans.
Police are quizzing a 53-year-old man after the vehicle hit the fans in the heart of the city centre on Monday evening, turning a day of joy for thousands of football fans in the city into one of horror.
At least 47 people were injured after the people-carrier rammed dozens of fans just after 6pm.
Witnesses described hearing “pop, pop, pop” as people were knocked off the bonnet of the vehicle. Firefighters rescued four people, including a child, who were trapped under the car.
Comedian Bishop, 58, who was at the parade with his father, Edward, expressed his shock and sadness in a heartfelt post on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I was at the parade today with my dad, and like everyone else, I am shocked and heartbroken about the events at the end of the Liverpool parade,” Bishop wrote. “My heart goes out to all those affected. Our anthem could not be more appropriate. You'll never walk alone.”
Atomic Kitten star and Liverpool native, Natasha Hamilton, also shared her distress, revealing that her father and nephew had been at the event when the incident occurred.
She posted a picture of them together before the chaos unfolded and wrote: “My dad and nephew were in Liverpool today at the celebration parade.

“Then I saw a video of what happened and my heart sank. Thankfully, they’re both safe, but I’m absolutely horrified at what I saw today. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”
Sharon Gaffka, a former Love Island contestant and campaigner, travelled to Liverpool from Oxford to attend the parade.

After witnessing the horrifying aftermath, she posted a picture of herself with a Liverpool flag next to the open-top bus, sharing her shock.
“What unfolded after was terrifying and heartbreaking. My thoughts are with everyone affected by the events. And I hope everyone got home safely,” she wrote.
Gaffka went on to praise the community response, adding: “What struck me wasn’t just the devastation, but how this city responded. I’ve seen so many fans and locals offering lifts, shelter, and comfort to complete strangers – because that’s what Liverpool is. Its resilience. Its community. Its people looking out for each other in the worst of times. That’s the reason I love this place. You'll never walk alone.”
